Most of us can admit to having ‘a type,’ an ideal of what we think we’re attracted to. No matter how much we hold onto it, we’ll all at some point surprise ourselves by being attracted to someone who doesn’t fit our ‘type’ definition. Obviously. Because its actually scented pheromones that govern the laws of attraction, not our eyes.
Nevertheless, some women always seem to date tall men. Some guys always date blonde girls. Things can get switched around and changed up, but it seems these variables rarely apply to hair. Meaning that if your type is dark skin, dark eyes and longish hair the scenario in which you’d most likely date an albino is if they had longish hair as well.
Why?
I think it has to do with the fact that hair represents someone’s overall fashion sense and lifestyle choice, making it a powerful identifier for the people you’re romantically drawn to. Your man’s hair is also a huge reflection on you. For example, my friend serially dates men with receding hairlines I find loathsome and she deems handsome.
Diagnosis: She admits to having daddy issues and therefore is after a more mature, caretaker kind of guy. This got us making a whole list…
Male Hairstyle You Date – Your Issue
The receding hairline – You’re looking for support, stability and a ‘nurturing’ force in your life. Sadly, there’s no data from the National Institute of Heath affirming that men with a hereditary disposition for early baldness are actually better caretakers…
Mr. Highlighted hair – You’re vain, self-absorbed, and he probably is too. Plus side, you can get through those never-ending highlighting appointments together?
Ponytail guys – You’ve got rebellion issues and are probably hopeful he’s got a tattoo too.
Straggly unkempt locks – In search of inspiration / excitement, you’re willing to overlook the fact that his hair resembles a homeless person’s. If you’re lucky, he’s some sort of artist.
Crew cut i.e. normal – You’re not really in the mood to take risks and are most likely looking for a date to the company Christmas party or to a significant other to bring home to mom and dad.
Dreads or faux hawk – Non-conformists. Both of you.
Longish hair – You’re generally undecided about the opposite sex and what you want from them. You don’t want a down and dirty rebel guy with locks long enough for a hair tie but you’re not exactly interested in the socially acceptable Ken doll clone either.
Shaved head / buzz cut – You want a low maintenance guy. Maybe even someone you could visualize yourself walking a dog with.
Gelled / Spiky hair – You’re out of your mind and need to confiscate his hair products immediately. OK, that’s just my opinion since I hate hair gel. So for this one I’m just going to say it means you’re quirky. And non-judgmental.
