SelfAbsorbed.ME : ‘It’s Your Life, We Just Write it Funnier’

I know I’m really late in discussing this because the “incident” happened almost a week ago, but I think it’s important that I take some time to discuss Kanye West’s latest outburst at the VMAs. I wish I could say it surprised me, but it did not. This isn’t the first time the rapper/jackass made a spectacle of himself. Lest us not forget how he stole the spotlight from Hurricane Katrina victims when, during a Hurricane Katrina benefit on NBC, he took the focus away from the victims and said, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Or how about when he allegedly walked out of the American Music Awards in 2004 claiming he was “robbed” when Gretchen Wilson won the “Best New Artist” award instead of him. He supposedly said to reporters, “I was the best artist of the year,” claiming a conspiracy was at work.

Knowing what we do about Kanye, why was no one around to prevent his latest outburst at poor, frail, angelic-looking 19 year-old Taylor Swift? The girl looked devastated. I felt bad. At first I didn’t even realize it was Kanye. He’s a lot shorter than I thought he was. . . . Anyway, the more I thought about it, I realized that this is not actually Kanye’s faults. I mean, why didn’t the VMA show organizers prepare for something like that, and hire extra security to keep Kanye locked in his dressing room, only letting him out when it’s absolutely necessary he be out on stage? And where the hell were his agent and publicist? Those are Kanye’s people. They know him best. They should have been on-hand with the proper tools and drugs to keep him sedated throughout the show.

And if my memory serves me correctly (it usually doesn’t), I’ve seen many a pictures of Kanye draining an entire bottle of Hennessy by himself on the VMA red carpet. Before the show. What did everyone expect would happen?? Name me one good thing that ever happened as a result of someone drinking an entire bottle of liquor by themselves in a short period of time? Exactly. Nothing. If I drank an entire bottle of booze before the VMAS, I’d probably be on stage too. Stripping! And vomiting.

Kanye needs to get himself some better representation because what he’s got going on now is definitely not working for him. Kanye, no matter how talented, is an idot. He needs to be handled with care. He needs to surround himself with people who understand this and can provide him with the support he needs. Am I the only person who saw the South Park “Gayfish” episode?? They hit the nail right on the head! That cartoon Kanye was spot-on! Deep down he is just an insecure man-child seeking attention and doing whatever it takes to get it.

So, before you utter or tweet another bad word about Kanye and the poor injustice Taylor Swift suffered at his hand, remember that he knows not what he does. And for that, we can’t really hold him accountable for his actions. We just need to look the other way and let him be.
