Remember last Thanksgiving when I wrote a post about people who should be more thankful? Well, GOOD NEWS! This year I wrote another cheesy Thanksgiving-related post, but this year it’s all about me (something new and different).
Many of my posts consists of me bitching about all the things that I don’t like about life, like having to work, not being born an heiress or Kardashian, the fact that I’m not yet engaged and the rude and disgusting people I come into contact with on a daily basis, but even I know that I really don’t have that much to complain about because there are people who are far worse off than I am. So, to help put things into perspective, and help me feel better about my life, I’ve thought long (about 5 minutes, give or take) and hard about what I’m thankful this year and (drum roll . . . . . ) HERE IT IS!
- My hair. Having naturally very curly hair used to seem like a huge pain in the ass and I lost sleep and wasted hours a week on making it straight, only to have it frizz and puff out anytime there was humidity in the air, or if it was raining, or if a drop of water, or sweat touched it. But after all these years, I’ve finally found a way for me and my hair to live in peace. In fact, I’ve actually come to find that I really like my curly hair and I really love that it only takes me about 5-10 minutes to style every morning.
- Urban Decay primer potion. Have you tried this stuff? No joke, it’s a miracle product. You put it on under your eye makeup and no creasing or smudging all day. It’s an amazing product! I don’t know how they do it. I salute you, Urban Decay, for discovering an eyeshadow primer that actually works. Your makeup scientists are little geniuses.
- The Loehmann’s store located one block over from where I live. Since it opened a year or two ago, the two of us have had some great times together. I still get choked up thinking about all the bags, shoes, shirts and sunglasses I have bought there over the years.
- Drugs and alcohol. After a long, hard day, the first thing I want to do is forget it ever happened and pretend I don’t have to get up and do it all over again the next day. This is where drugs and/or alcohol come in. These little mind erasers/mood boosters work wonders on the psyche (depending on what you indulge in). However, not everyone can afford these luxuries and I feel bad for these people. It makes you wonder why groups like City Harvest don’t also collect these items for the less fortunate around the holidays. I bet they would really appreciate it. Something to consider for next year.
- The Fall 2009 TV lineup. These past few years, television stations have cluttered their evening lineups with horrendous reality TV shows, making D-list celebrities relevant again (Hello, Paula Abdul and Mario Lopez!) and making non-celebrities well-known (if I read another pointless story about Heidi and Spencer or Jon and Kate, I may rip my eyes out). We went a loooooooong time without a new, quality, scripted television show. Until now. We can all be thankful that we now have some quality shows available for our viewing pleasure like some of my favorites: “Community,” “Modern Family” and “The Cleveland Show.” Between these shows and keeping up with my soaps, like “General Hospital,” I’m also thankful for DVR.
- My cats. I know, I know, you’re tired of hearing about my damn cats. But I can’t help it! They are soooo cute. Judge me if you will, but I don’t care. I love them like they’re my own little babies, but better, because they don’t don’t spit up on me, or expect me to wipe their asses after they sh*t.
- Professional sports. It’s true that professional sports provide hours of entertainment to millions of people almost every day, and I’m grateful to Boyfriend for bringing football into my life, but there’s another reason I am thankful for professional sports and that’s because it brings lots of sexy men into our lives. And you can never have too much sexy in your life. Thank you, NFL, NBA and NHL.
- Early release at work today. In a rare display of goodwill, the powers that be at my job let us leave at 1 today, and, miraculously, I was actually able to walk out the door at 1:30. Today was probably my most favorite day at work ever. Except that I had to be in at 8 instead of 9.
- Friends and family. And what would a cheesy Thanksgiving post be without acknowledging the obvious - I’m very thankful for my family (even Grandma and her bitter remarks), friends (the handful that I actually still keep in touch with) and Boyfriend.
So, now that you’ve seen my list, show me yours! What are you thankful for this year?

I’m thankful for all of my family’s help this past year with my being unemployed, and I NEVER ask them for anything.
I’m thankful for being able to keep my condo despite the unemployment problem.
I’m thankful for my job at Macy’s, despite the lower income when compared with my former job.
I’m thankful for meeting my fantastic boyfriend.
I’m thankful for my wonderful circle of friends and neighbors.

Oh SG…High Five (never knock the High 5) for being a fantastic Bloggah (as we say in Massachusetts). We all need someone to make humor in the obvious and recognize accomplishments. In particular the Drugs and Alcohol department. Boo-ya-ka-sha.

I was clearly in a kind of pre-Thanksgiving coma when this post took placed and missed the boat. But I did say what I was thankful for at my Thanksgiving dinner - which was Peking Duck. It was awesome.
